A Lib Guide for Year 7 History

Biomes

Types of Biomes

The aquatic biome is divided into freshwater and marine regions. Freshwater regions, such as lakes and rivers, have a low salt concentration. Marine regions, such as estuaries and the ocean, have higher salt concentrations.

Biomes and Climate change

The video above is taken from the Australian Academy of Science and their report on how Australia will be impacted by global warming as a result of climate change. Extreme weather events such as bushfires, cyclones, storms and drought are all evidence of global warming. Rising temperatures affect water flow in rivers, contribute to heat stress in farm animals as well as reducing the areas of land available for crops such as wheat and barley. You can read a summary of their report here.

Creating references

Referencing or citing your sources is an important part of academic writing and research. It lets you acknowledge the ideas or words of others and helps avoid plagiarism.

Notetaking

One effective strategy for improving retention is note taking – not just because you’ll have a written record to refer to in the future, but also because the actual act of taking notes can help cement concepts in your mind. There is no single way of taking notes.  Browse these resources to find what suits you.
