Baptism is a sacrament by which people become members of a church. In some churches, baptism involves sprinkling water on a person. Other churches practice immersion (lowering the person completely into water). Many Christians baptize infants. Others, including Baptists, believe that baptism should not occur until a person is old enough to make a personal commitment to a church. Christians believe that Jesus set an example for this sacrament when he asked the Jewish holy man John the Baptist to baptize him. WBO Student | Article (worldbookonline.com)
