Science: Space probes

About this guide

This guide will help you explore space probes. A probe is a spacecraft that travels through space to collect science information. Probes do not have astronauts. Probes send data back to Earth for scientists to study. Sputnik 1 was the first probe to go into space.

Bibliography - introduction

What is a bibliography?

A bibliography is an alphabetic listing (citations) of all sources of information used in a piece of research work.

There are a number of different ways to structure bibliographies. It is essential that you use only one style. At Clonard, we recommend you follow the APA style.

Many online resources provide citations, so you need to check which style has been used. If it is not the APA style, you will need to create your own citation.

Points to remember

  • Get into the habit of recording a resource's bibliographic details as soon as you decide that it will be useful.
  • When in doubt, ask for help from your teacher or librarian.
  • Use the Online Referencing Generator to create your own citations using the APA style.

Something extra

The "Space to Ground" web series, available every Friday, features a short wrap-up of the week's activities aboard the International Space Station that showcases the diversity of activities taking place aboard the world's only orbiting laboratory.

The legendary astrophysicist Carl Sagan, involved with Voyager since its inception, reflected that this distant view of the tiny stage on which we play out our lives should inspire us "to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known".

Here is an in-depth introduction to the Solar System and the planets that are in it. From the sun to why poor Pluto is no longer considered a planet, come along for a ride across the Solar System and learn a ton of cool facts about Solar System!

Where is the space station now?

There are several e-books about astronomy. Once you've logged in to E-Stax, search for 'astronomy'.
